Greening of roofs is a rapidly developing aspect of horticulture. Allied to long established methods of roof gardening – sometimes now known as intensive green roofs –extensive systems often involving very thin soils and even soilless systems are becoming much more common . Following leads from the continent there are many environmental advantages to extensive systems with the improvement of inner city biodiversity ,the effects of pollution, the control of rain water run off rates and insulation.
